‘We the North’, The Vancouver Addition

On October 5th, The Toronto Raptors will play an exhibition game at Rogers Arena in Vancouver against the Sacramento Kings. Although the crowd will be made up fans cheering for the Raptors, they are yet to take advantage of of being Canada’s only NBA club, ever since the Vancouver Grizzlies’ quick exit in 2001.

Vancouver fans are just looking to get behind a team since the Grizzlies left; or there are younger NBA fans who never had a team and are just looking to get behind a club. Many fans in BC cheer for Steve Nash, where ever he goes, but don’t always have a team to get behind. The last Raptors visit to Rogers Arena (previously GM Pace) was way back in October of 2010. Those 4 years could’ve been a marketing opportunity and a crucial window to grow the Raptors fan base in Vancouver. The Raptors recent success and their successful marketing slogan “We the North’ are steps in the right direction, it just doesn’t seem to make much sense as to why an exhibition game isn’t played every year, in addition to player visits, NBA and Raptor fantasy camps, contests to watch the Raptors on the road and other exclusive fans activations to help cultivate a strong Raptor fan base here in western Canada.
